Carl Muhlstein has worked the Los Angeles commercial market for more than three decades, building his name in the entertainment and creative-office sectors. After a long tenure as International Director at JLL — where he was the firm's top Southern California producer in 2014, 2018, and 2019 — he launched his own firm, MuhlsteinCRE, in late 2023, focused on capital markets, leasing, and development including soundstages and change-of-use projects.
He has taken part in more than $2 billion of transactions, among them the lease that brought MTV and Viacom to Kilroy Realty's Columbia Square on Sunset — the area's first new office building in more than twenty years — and an 801,000-square-foot lease at the Burbank Studios. He helped move adaptive reuse of older buildings into creative office from a niche into a mainstream category, and has served in advisory roles across five Los Angeles mayoral administrations and with the Urban Land Institute and AIA.
